The Pac-12 released its schedule for the 2016-17 regular season and announced the schedule for the annual Oregon State vs. Washington State football game. Formerly known as the Civil War, it is home to two of the most important games in college football history. It holds the record for most wins in a season in NCAA history (950 - 307 - 26) and is the 3rd-ranked NCAA victory in school history.
As it evolved, it became the official mascot of the state of Oregon, "Bell is quoted as saying. The beaver, which is in the OSU yearbook, began using the cover artwork in 1916, which led to the mascot's popularity. Hayes said it was also interesting to see that the grinning beaver head on the OSU cap that replaced the athletic beaver icon in 2001 was probably drawn in 1951. The Oregon State football team finished third in the Pac-12 Conference in 2016 with a 9-4 record, and the Beavers finished second overall - and qualified for the NCAA championships, which are held on their home turf in Oregon State. The Beaver's last appearance was the 2013 Hawaii Bowl, which led to a victory over Boise State. They are 11-6 in bowl games so far, but the first bowl game they lost was a loss to Oregon State in that Rose Bowl and came against them in 1957, in their fourth appearance.

The Beavers' baseball team has won three national championships, including two NCAA Division I championships I championships and two Pac-12 championships. In June 2018, the Beaver Creek won their first NCAA championship in men's basketball and participated in 17 NCAA tournaments. Oregon State made 16 appearances in the NCAA tournament, three of them between 1980 and 82, which was later cleared by the NCAA.
