I love to swing dance, and while I am learning East Coast swing, I really have my heart set on the Lindy Hop.

Honestly I'm just looking around at the moment. Perhaps at some point I should say something more about myself, like that I enjoy biking, rock climbing, yoga, and general fitness type stuff. I would also probably, if I ever get around to it, mention how bad I am at playing the guitar... though I persist. I guess I would bring up that I'm studying science and working at a plant pathology lab on the OSU campus, where I'll likely be through my grad degree. At this point I'd be sure to add something about my amateur photography, or my love of (and skill at) cooking, and then a general sort of warning that I'm not at all religious, and leave off with a brief mention that I'm in decent (albeit not wonderful... yet ;D ) shape, have short, dark-brown hair, glasses and a goatee, or something like that.

Hello! I'm a 26-year-old guy who's amazingly decided not to make The Great Corvallis Escape like most of my friends. People describe me as kind, smart, and a little odd. My main interests are game-making, writing, and Japanese culture, especially manga/anime and the language. Although I'm usually down to earth, I like to question traditions and formal rules. Now that I think about it, I really don't like formal events very much. My view is that people shouldn't be afraid to think any thought and question any practice. I'm an engineering student at Oregon State, working on a chemical engineering degree. I have a lot of nerd-type interests, but not exclusively. My sense of humor tends toward sarcasm, but I don't mock people (unless they REALLY deserve it, or I know they won't care). I'm quite liberal and open-minded and try not to judge anyone.

As far as interests go, I like technology, gaming, movies and novels-- especially science fiction and fantasy. I also secretly like poetry and not-so-secretly like chocolate. Some may consider me a little bit naive, as I still believe in the essential goodness of people. Most people who know me well refer to me as 'adorable', but a small portion find me terrifying. I am an architectural designer and a martial arts instructor. I have also done some film work as a fight choreographer/stunt performer. Currently, I am looking to start secondary intimate relationships with people I can love. My style of dating is on the tender, homey side. On the religious front, I am pagan. I am heavily opposed to anything oppressive to the rights and creativity of people, and my ethical views are ecocentric and anti-authoritarian. This includes everyday interaction; absolute statements of opinion are a BIG turnoff, and I am very sensitive to them. They make me squint and angle my head ever so slightly... like this. Yep. I've been a pirate in the SCA for about 5 years now. My main events are Gathering and Gypsy Days & Seadog Nights. These days I'm with the Blue Wolves Den, but I've previously been with the Wolves Den, Leo's Pride and the Raven's Lust, until those particular groups became inhospitable or began to sink, as ships and social arrangements occasionally do. Now I've got the land under my feet in a house, so perhaps it'll last. The major difference between a house and pirate ship is the structure of leadership vs. authority. The SCA tends to bring out the unfortunate tendency of a tightly packed social group to form a hierarchy of authority, and/or for one or two dumbasses to fuck it up for everyone else through their drama. I promise I'm not the common denominator.

Hey, I am currently in school at OSU in Corvallis but would much rather be back in Portland much of the time as it better suits my personality. As a person I am generally ubber laid back, low stress, and quite independent. I have always wanted to choose high risk, high adrenaline careers even from when I was a little kid giving me an almost endless supply of vibrant energy.

When there is warm weather I love to mountain bike or surf off the coast, Oregon winter surfing is absolutely fantastic although the water is a little more chilly than I like. I am not a bar personality, I would rather drink coffee in intriguing places around a city than I would like to sit in a bar. I am a huge fan of the arts with a special interest in some modern and most impressionist paintings. One tends to make you think about the context and subject while the second captures you with the vivid feelings. During the winter I study and discuss any possible subject imaginable while coiling up like a spring until the warmer days come along, all the time imagining what living in Tahiti or some other tropical place would be like.

Well like most people I run across its hard to talk about yourself but here goes. I recently moved to oregon from alaska and decided to go to college again. Still getting used to the small town living, smalest place I ever lived in besides here was 400,000 people. I think the best way to describe myself is to say that I love talking with people. Getting to know people is hugely important to me, it's how I learn more about myself. So, whoever you are, I'd probably love to get to know more about you (for completely selfish reasons...).

I'm a little bit of every stereotype I can think of. I think most people are, they've just found their niche a little better/quicker than I have. I like to think I'm that one damn puzzle piece that you cannot figure out where it goes, but it seems to fit in so many places and it could be any of them and ARRRGHH where does it GO!?

Several years back a coined a term for myself that has proven itself to be true throughout the years. I am a "cynical-optimist." I'm sure I'm not the only person who's ever used it, but it just works so well. I understand that things can work out well and I hope for the best. But I understand that people are selfish creatures and there isn't much you can do about it except strive to do the best you can at being considerate, and also work to be compassionate and understanding of others.

I've started studying biology, chemistry, and physics this year. So far, I've discovered that I really like biology and mostly hate physics; Chemistry is somewhere in between. My major is still math, but I might add biology as a second major.

I'm pretty upset the Jamba Juice on Monroe closed and the one on 9th stayed open (the wrong one closed!). I ride a bike and walk, and it was nice to be able to get a juice between classes; that's not possible anymore.

School work is pretty much all there is to me. I go to school to learn, not to get a degree. I'd still be learning even if I wasn't at school.

Just here for the quizzes, and if a friend comes out of that's cool, too. My dude and I haven't connected with too many people yet in our new town.

Things I Know.
1. When questioned about suspicious material, say it is art.
2. When a man says no to champaign, he says no to life.
3. When panicked, you will be blind to what's in front of you.
4. Never bet on a sure thing.

I suppose I'm pragmatic. While many of these personal descriptions describe a near perfect person, I won't do that. I'm not a combination of George Clooney, Jerry Seinfeld, Johnny Depp and Donald Trump. But at the same time I'm not looking for a combination super model, gourmet chef and professional house keeper.

I have seen many profiles saying "I want a real man." It recently occurred to me that I'm not a man, but rather, a guy. Men are people like CEOs, dictators and generals. Guys, on the the other hand, are soldiers, factory workers and postmen. Men build pyramids to their own glory, start wars, cause economic depressions and sleep with their young secretaries. Guys take naps, like to play with tools and gadgets, occasionally scratch themselves and think about sleeping with attractive secretaries but don't because it's wrong (the secretaries like real men anyway). I make no excuses for or apologize for my guy hood.

Similar to other profiles, I started to make a list of things about myself and things I'd potentially like in another person. But I have to be honest.....it felt like I was making a grocery list. That didn't seem very fair or nice to me. People are more complicated than that, after all. I have learned, more than once in my life, that I should not judge people by their initial appearance or possessions (most of the time, anyway!). To put it another way: Do you really want to read another profile that says meaningless drivel such as "I like to go out and and stay in" or "I like the outdoors" or my personal favorite "I like to have fun!"

Likewise I'm not going to make a list of things I don't like. When I read such lists in other profiles it seems to me I'm reading a synopsis of "things I hate about my ex". And that is not healthy.

I find many of the profiles on this site very amusing. For example, I find it humorous to see who fills in "athletic" as body type. I filled in "a little extra" because I could lose "a little extra". Michael Phelps is athletic. I am not and most likely neither are you.

And I won't post pictures of places I have been on vacation for two reasons 1. I doubt you'd like to see them 2. I actually haven't traveled to any "exotic" places (although I was in Nebraska once...are you impressed?)

What's with the multiple pictures of peoples pets? I can tell you with great certainly that no one has ever seen a picture of a dog or cat on a profile and said "That is one great looking animal.....I must e-mail her/him!" The same can be said for pictures of sunsets, old ruins you saw on vacation and flowers. If anyone wants to see those things there is a cool website called Google. Please...post some pictures of you (or if you must at least post pictures of the power tools and electronics you own).

(Having said these things I hope you're not taking any of this too seriously......I simply have a satirical sense of humor).

On a more serious note:
A few years ago I decided that if I wanted to get a college degree I'd better do so before I got too old. And that is what I am doing now. Currently I'm working on my PhD (Botany) and with some luck I'll finish within a few months.

I recently gave up real cigarettes for e-cigs. I kind of like them and don't plan to quit those anytime soon. I also checked off "often" because I like to have a beer with dinner. Getting drunk regularly is something I grew out of long ago.

I am adventurous, nature loving person looking meet new people. I am practical and optimistic.

Summarize myself...?!? Like I'm objective, let's ask my dog for his opinion.... "Well, what can a dog say, the meals are always on time, he works too much but makes up for it with plenty of hiking and beach trips and, he can generally be counted on for a bit of petting while he watchs movies and way too much news". Well, is that all Mr. Dog, "No, he should seriously consider picking just one genre of music one of these days, for crying out loud, Pink Martini, Bach, The Beetles and Muddy Waters all in the CD changer at the same time, it's ridiculous".

I am an aspiring malevolent dictator who plans to take the world through a robotic uprising. Minus the AI that eventually realizes it doesn't want to be ruled by me any more. I would have my robots programmed way better than that.

The FBI-friendly version: I am a decently pretty chick who's presently at school at OSU and LBCC. I like velociraptors, and if they were brought back I would be simultaneously terrified and captivated by their amazing cuteness. I enjoy movies--my favorite this summer was Iron Man. Hey everyone, I'm Steve. I like hanging out with my friends, working with the school's formula racing team, and gaming in one form or another. I'm also terrible at writing self-summaries.

I'm currently a Junior at Oregon State studying Electrical Engineering because I found that my first degree in General Studies didn't do me much good. When I'm not at school you can usually find me at work in the local hobby shop. Outside of school and work I'm pretty laid back... maybe a little too much sometimes. I've got my own apartment about a block from OSU because I've had nothing but bad luck with roommates in the past. Sometimes I'm quiet... sometimes I'm not, just depends on my mood and the group of people I'm with at the time. My sarcastic sense of humor offends most people... maybe even you!

In general I'm very opinionated and very rarely do I change my mind about how I feel. However, I like to hear what other people think and would rather debate for the sake of hearing new ideas than changing someone's opinion.

I'm into graphics design, Web design, programing , pretty much give me a computer and I can do anything. I enjoy drawing and watching some anime.. not all though... theres a quite a bit of shitty animes out there.
I run and play tennis at the gym just about every-night. It would be awesome to meet someone interested in going to the gym.

I play a crap load of video games but I don't let it control my life.. I go outside.. sometimes...
As for what I play: Just about anything, i'm decent at all types of games.. fps, mmo, rpg, platform.

I've been told this is too short. Ok, last night on the bus I saw a backpack with the name "jester" on it. For some reason, my brain wandered to the scene in Top Gun wherein Mav and Goose "kill" Jester but it's below the hard deck. I got to wondering, if it's not legal for the trainees to kill below the hard deck, why are the instructors allowed to fly there except in cases of emergency? Why can the instructors cheat, but not the trainees? If the movie were logical, I'd assume it's something to do with the different planes the instructors and trainees were using. I wished I had someone to talk to this about when I got home. If you would be interested in this and/or other similarly random, pseudo- and sometimes truly philosophical/intellectual discussions, just for the sake of discussion, you might be for me.

Otherwise, I'm getting my PhD and otherwise thinking big thoughts on our educational system (including military training - why not?).

I'm a guy that's down to have fun and/or hang out with good company. I snowboard, play sports, race my car and generally like all outdoor activities. I live in Corvallis but I hang out with friends all over Oregon all the time enjoying life (Portland, Eugene etc), that's of course when I can : ). I also attend OSU full time as an Engineer. I'm definitely conventional when it comes to family, but the furthest thing from it when it comes to friendâ??s lol; they are definitely culturally diverse and love to play all around the world. I'm a strong believer in the statement "you are who you hangout with", and in that light I would consider myself well balanced : ). Iâ??ve lived most of my life in Orange County California, but have been in Oregon for over 2 years now. Its funny because in both places all my friends like to date each other lol. I love my fam and the friends Iâ??ve made up here but now I'm just looking to have fun with somebody new outside the group with the possibility of more. With my strong outgoing personality, I also love to meet new and interesting people all the time. I consider myself intelligent and well spoken. I'm definitely fun loving and very spontaneous. I bicycle frequently, go hiking occasionally, and perpetually intend to do rock climbing (but never do). I'm quick, agile, and athletic, but detest team sports. I am reflexively pro-Them, anti-Us.

I live with one dog, who regularly puts my claims of quickness and agility to shame.

My natural interest in politics is considerably tempered by my pessimism towards the chances of actually influencing policy.

I'm happy reading dense books and sipping tea. I'm eager to talk to people who have something interesting to say, but try to avoid people who chatter endlessly about nothing. Occasionally I'm tempted to claim that I have no interest in social status, and although that certainly isn't true, my desire to seek status is well below average. Hello there. I'm currently 25 working in Corvallis as a Network Administrator for a company that owns 5 hospitals and numerous clinics in the Willamette Valley. Besides my job, I really enjoy spending time with my friends, cooking, reading, playing on the internet, mycology, socially drinking (weekends only), and computers. I'd like to think of myself as a "functional nerd" as in I can hold a long boring conversation about Astrophysics with somebody else who's interested, but I only let my real nerd out when needed. I'm normally shy with strangers, unless they talk to me. I'm really obnoxious around my friends if I know it'll get a laugh. Don't know much else to put in here, so ya, just ask. :-)

I only know numbers and basic greetings in German. I took one class back in high school and don't remember most of it.
